I think the themes suggested by the Woophy staff are perfect: ME, YOU, HOME, MY WORLD, DAILY LIFE, etc.
I particularly like the etc part.

Hi, everyone!
I think that the New Contest would have to be, whatever the theme is, something precise in its aim. A concise title, not to let doubts about it. Broader or narrower, but precise. Just as a personal opinion, I like "nature/earth", "architecture/historical local buildings", or even "conceptual" themes (this last one maybe not so easy but more challenging). But I also agree with any suggestions brought by Joris, though (as said above) restricted to one of them.
Why not to open a inquiry sent by e-mail for woophy members (or any other practical way of doing it) with all these previous suggestions and let members to express their majority opinion?
A last word, not directly linked to this: the Forum topics are always read and discussed by a hundred of us (maximum, I'd say); why not to alert members for its existence, showing its menu bigger at Woophy2 and other actions?
Nice week-end to all of you!

However I'm not very active on this contesting field, I do regret the new contest has still to be created, after all the first month of the year has almost passed already...
Nonetheless the themes proposed by Joris sounds good but somehow they remind to the themes being used in the 2006 contest.
By the way, why wouldn't we stick to the very basics of photography and use themes like perspective, rythm, movement, contrast, close-up/macro, etc...
It keeps subjects completely open and starting photographers can learn quite a lot in this way...

Sounds all good to me, like the themes Buildings, nature and global warming.
But why not Architecture (all type of buildings) of:
- the Past (could be a old church or ruin or something)
- now (buildings that are designed to daily live)
- the future (very modern buildings)

I agree with Nivad.
I like tphotographic themas as "Lights & Shadows", "Perspectives", "Up&Down"...
But also general human themas as "Health and Disease", "Education", "Sensuality", etc...

I agree with Marcos and Geoffrey about the themas, let the topic be near the area where we are living. All the aspects of buildings, trees and nature will include this topic.
The global warming is not such a good idea in my opinion, because that will change at soon in politic, and that's not the aim of Woophy.

Well Joris, good luck. Ask a question like this and you'll get enough suggestions to last till 2025 :-)
Oh, almost forgot, I support the suggestion of Nivad and Aline :-)

The topic "Probably the best in the world" : http://www.woophy.com/forum/index.php?action=vthread&forum=9&topic=296 8 gave quit more reactions then I could imagine. It is a subject wich is open for all of us. And that should also be the aim of a competion.
But I also support the suggestions of Nivad and Aline. I think the challenge is bigger in theirs suggested topics. 'Movement and rythm, contrasts and perspectives, ... but I like also the human themas "health and disease" (wow) and "sensuality". I have no experience with the last one (in taking pictures I mean... ) but I like to try it. Is anyone of you candidate to pose for me? ;-)
Enfin, Joris, you have a difficult job here on woophy. In fact it is equal to me. I like a competion with any kind of subject. I look out for it. See it soon. Grtz to all of you Woophians.

Hi I'm new to this but I agree with vahephoto Change is something that effects us all. An alternative would be "GOD" in nature, events, shadow, etc.......

Nice discussion,
I am very keen on architecture and therefore Oscar's idea is very nice but I don't know if it has much relevance with me, the world arownd me etc, so if you won't choose it it is ok.
Just one consideration: the theem global warming is in my opinion something that would "scare away" people from the contest just as this past year's one did, because it is not something easy to represent, unless you have the opportunity to travel or have got a good example near your home.

Yes, I think Lonesome Runner is right. I like different themes every month--everyone has different interests and strengths. And I love the themes he suggests.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
Our aim (put it simply) is to picture the World and from that perspective I was most charmed by the more social and abstract theme's like PEOPLE on EARTH which Ruden Fretsbo suggested. Also I agree with the fun of having each month a different sub theme like lonesome runner suggested.
The more technically orientated photographic themes could be part of the contest but should in my opinion never be the aim of a Woophy contest. The social and environmental focus is the most important.
So semi-democratically it is decided that the 2008 theme is PEOPLE on EARTH and that we have 12 monthly sub themes.
My suggestion is to start in March or April and choose a winner each month.
The themes lonesome runner suggested seem a good list to get started with but please also give us your opinion about it.

Fine too me Joris. So we have each month an extra contest !
I am just doubting about the meaning of a few topics (because off my poor english) :
- decay : stands for rotten fruit, demolished building, spooled people, ... ???
- artificial stands for not real ??
- trade is like changing without money ??
Let us know when you want to start.
Grtz, Rik

From Lonesome Runner's idea, and Joris' s decision about PEOPLE ON EARTH, I tried to "organize" and suggest, in that basis, these 10 themes> (from March till December), which I found would contemplate 5 great Areas* of Men activity and being:
* Science and Technology
> Energy
> Artificial & Futuristic
* Art and Decay
> Architecture (Interiors and Exteriors)
> Decay
* Work and Pleasure
> Jobs
> Sport and Leisure
* Ways of Living
> Citylife
> Countrylife and Nature
* Body & Senses
> Portrait (joy&sorrow)
> Old versus New (not "old" or "new")
It was nice from Joris to ask for our suggestions and it made me think and "re-organize" ideas too!
Great "topic" ;)

Oh, I forget to ask Joris if is there a maximum number for pics to be entering the monthly Contest by each member? (just as another opinion too, I think it should, even if you consider it could be a "high" number, let's say about 8?)
