As said we will also hold a competition in 2008

At this moment we are thinking of a theme.

In contrast with our last theme we are now thinking of a theme really close to home and daily life. The idea remains the same that we have several monthly competitions and at the end choose an overall winner.

For now we are thinking about the themes: ME, YOU, HOME, MY WORLD, DAILY LIFE, etc.

Any suggestions are welcome

thanks

I have one idea, very related with the original purpuse of Woophy, World of Photography and the nice idea of knowing each country by the pictures that users display.

The contest 2008 could be about typical things of each country as for example in my country is the "Mate" and is very common to see people drinking "Mate" everywhere. Recently a topic related to this typical things of each country was opened:

Probably the best in the world !

I think that this could be a nice idea, In my opinion much more interesting than the theme of the 2007 contest and I believe that something different could be added to this contest.
In Woophy 2.0, if you click on the name of a country you are redirected to page where information about that country appears in a frame at the right of the top rated pictures of that country. What if at the end of the 2008 contest one picture of each country is selected and is displayed in that page?

Marcos.

What about global change? The contest could include things people have never (or rarely) seen in their area... unusually high water, too much snowfall, too little snowfall, melting glaciers, changing migration patterns...

In my country there are no Mountains. Uruguay is a lowlands country.

i think the idea you have said joris is better than the others mentioned as not everyone has superb views or the time to go take nice views . and buildings well some people dont live near great architecture plus not the most thought provoking subject. i think family and daily life is better idea as think family and daily life needs promoting as theres too much hurt in the world lets celebrate the love of family and our lives.

lets have a subject for once that everyone on woophy can relate to . as seen some people get chance to go to breath taking locations or live in a city that has skyscrapers. but i see more on here of people and there family. i think more members would join in the competition if the subject was more close to home.

I do not know about that, thanks for information.
That's makes woophy unique because you can see all kind of photographs even you got to see them in your country or not.

What about eating place like bars, pubs? Bars and pubs are everywhere in the world.

Hi all!

I think that the subjects that you are considering for the 2008 competition: ME, YOU, HOME, MY WORLD, DAILY LIFE... are really appropriate, because after a difficult theme for 2007 this can open the competition to many more people. My proposal for the new competition would be to join all this concepts together in one: "PEOPLE & EARTH" could be the title, referring to the relationship beetween people and the planet (this includes nature, animals, other people, citys, and a long etc...) I think this proposal includes somehow those made by Marcos and vahephoto, which I think are really interesting.

So this would be my proposal: "PEOPLE & EARTH" or maybe "PEOPLE on EARTH"...

Fretsbo has a point! Trees are part of Earth. I vote for him

I think Vahephoto has a point. Global warming is going to affect everyone to some extent. A competition on this theme may have a more serious purpose; the global Whoopy family can provide an instant snapshot of how everyone experiences global warming at a very local level.

Hello everyone
I agree vahephoto, a theme that is affecting us all; CLIMATE CHANGE IN THE WORLD.
You can put photos of the environment where you live, and that is changing because of climate change.
Greetings

Forget the objects (trees, buildings, people), and we focus on concepts, (originality, ideas, spontaneity, technical quality, philosophy), I think it would be more interesting and less boring.

Sounds like an Inconvenient contest.
I like Ruden Fretsbo's proposal, how about PEOPLE on a CHANGING EARTH ?

Hi everyone,

What else can I say.... NATURE.

Because NATURE is suffering by climate change...
and also by what mankind is doing....

But I realise there many more themes

Joris. Perhaps it would be possible to combine Woophy's core aim, for photographers to display how beautiful our world is, with a more specific aim - to show good things about where they live. As Marcos says, a recent Forum thread -

http://www.woophy.com/forum/index.php?action=vthread&forum=9&topic=296 8

attracted a lot of interest in this kind of idea. All Woophy members are, I am sure, very proud of many things about where they live, and a competition topic like this would provide them with a focussed way to express that in pictures.

Regards

I support Aiso's idea for "nature". That is what we all have (nice or ugly) and it suits the purpose of Woophy. Can give a fair competition although I think that the pictures of garbish in nature will have a big preference for the jury. Nevertheless, let's do it.

In Holland we now have a discussion on the award of the "silver camera" (a Dutch equivalent of world press photo). Photographers try to exclude the photos of a photographer in Afganisthan (very nice ones) who was a militairy photo journalist. They say that it will devaluate the price to a "nice pictures event". That's always the mouse trap.
