IF YOU WANT TO TAKE PART IN THE WORKSHOP PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE RULES BELOW:
1. Join the workgroup in this link: http://www.woophy.com/forum/12_4440_0.html . The of members list will be open all the time (to get in and to get out).
2. Each member of the workgroup agrees in being a critic for other members (not necessarily all them) and being criticized by the rest of members (not necessarily all them).
3. The main idea is to make a critic of a whole work from a photographer and not only of a picture. It’s aviced to browse to the whole collection of the photographer under critics (but it’s not obligatory, specially considering that there are some very large portafolios).
4. Nevertheless, a sample around 20 pictures selected by the photographer will be posted in the appropriate forum thread in order to highlight which pictures the photographer considers as the best examples of his/her photographic work. The critics will take specially these pictures into account, but all the collection can be browsed and used for the critic’s work.
5. All opinions must be accepted by all members, like it or not. The only limits for the critics is to be sincere, to be polite and to be constructive. This is supposed to be a workshop to learn... if you want flattery just have a look at the normal comments in your pictures.
6. All aspects of photography would be under critics: quality, quantity, originality, subject, composition, light, color, white balance, edition, etc... But this doesn't mean that you must criticize all these things. Concerning the critics, you will find a very good summary in Miguel's blog here: ".Elements of Analysis
7. This workgroup doesn't intend to be an "exclusive club for experienced photographers". All members are welcome, with all photographic levels... (If you don't know about white balance, depth of field, ISO, etc... just tell us "I like your collection or I don't like it at all and try to explain why with your own words...)
8. The strategy "you scratch my back and I scratch yours" is not accepted in such a workgroup... Let's be serious...
Now some ideas about the way to carry this out:
1st. Join the group in the forum linked before.
2nd. You will be in a queue and you will have to wait to your turn to post your own gallery in a new forum topic. There will be 4 members showing their collections at the same time for one week.
3rd. When it's your turn post a forum topic with the title: "CRITICS WORKSHOP: Member’s nickname gallery". In this topic you will cut and paste these rules and those written above and post around 20 pictures selected from your own collection. It would be nice also if you could write few words about your photographic work: what are you interested in, what do you want to transmit with your pictures, for how long you are a photographer... and whatever you think it’s important to consider for a critic.
About me: La Rafale wrote: this is may be the most difficult part to do and I must say..for me too. I,m a 13 in dozen photographer like Joop van Dijk wrote but I don't go outside without my camera, we are one. I like the nature around me, the lake; sometimes I call it "our lake" , the sky, reflections of all, sunsets etc. Thanks for Woophy I learned to look around me with "photografic eyes" ; looking for detail and documentary. I shoot always in the automatic position but the last year I started to learn my camera, the manual side and now I shoot in RAW+L...but I have so much to learn, not only my camera but also my new (for me) I-Mac with the new program Aperture 2. I'm curious for your fair critic so well negative as positive

Hi Richt,
The ones that I prefer are
I think that you have a tendency to crop too tight: you don't leave enough breathing space to your subjects, such as here:

Hi Richt, I do share Ortho's opinion about your cropping, in general I think you should pay more attention to your compositions. Critically reviewing them I come to the following. 1. The shadowy part of the gate spoils the overall impression, maybe you can go back another time. 2.As said too tightly cropped, moreover the bottom arm touches the fence and barn, maybe the mill was not in operation, too bad ! 3, Wonderful city scene and good human element 4. Beautiful village view apart from the hedge, no way around I am afraid. 5. Another tight crop, if unavoidable I would have cropped the left . 6. I immediately thought Harlingen, I only was there once in my life but I noticed the same men at the harbour front. A bit tight on the left again but overall good. 7. Beautiful document of enthousiastic choir performance, cropping ..... 8. Splendid scene! Love it! 9. Great moment, cropping... 10. Very good landscape composition, colours and sky top! 11. Good lake view and reflection. 12. Great idea and story , the position of the arm - behind the book - however does spoil it a little. 13. Gorgeous reflection, like a fish-head, the cropping .... 14. Great, especially the fingers in reflection, the light on the guitar is a little strong but could have been reduced by editing. 15. Very creative 16. Pretty shot, not more 17. Well composed but it lacks a liitle the tension that can be found on other statues there. 18. Not ver sharp and the people on the right have no additional value. 19. Nice capture 20. Splendid light and refelection, well done!
Looking at you total portfolio Richt I really think you have potential, your Orje landscapes are very beautiful, scenes of daily life however are far more difficult. You can learn that too - I am convinced - by looking at the work of others and by paying attention to the composition and the editing! I wish you a lot of succes and I hope I have not been too hard on you, if so please forgive me!

hello richt,
one of the best photo's in this selection is:

a lot of your other lake orje-photo's belong to your best ones (all of course in my eyes); i can't get enough of them:

i like the natural colours and good light in your photo's. and you alway present them with care. number 1 is beautiful, despite the shadow-part. i agree with jan and ortho about the too tight crop of some of your photo's, for instance 2 and 6.
number 17 is good; but some other from this sculpture-park are much better, this one for instance:
(the human presence gives an extra.)
this one is another of my favourites from your selection:

and i like the numbers 7, 9 and 10. (streetchoir, fair, coleseed-field; three good subjects.)
i'm an amateur like you. it's sometimes hard to say why i like a photo or why i don't like it. you show us seven photo's with reflections (11-14; 18-20). the upside down reading lady in the glass is well shot and funny. and the reflecting rock (13) looks like a fish. but in general i find these seven (mainly the subject) not that interesting. and: that says nothing about the quality of the photo's.
much more interesting is this photo and the accompanying story:
(a real woophy-photo and -story in the best sense of the word!)
and two other favourites:

and in general: it's a pleasure to see your photo's passing by on woophy. go on!

Hi Richt,
I will start with the pictures I don't like in your selection:
- maybe with more sky would be better, also the compo is a little flat imho, although colors and specially the sky are beautiful. - with a closest focus I think It would be better, if we can see the woman face and also the street perspective. Too high crop, I think... - just a nice view, but not special to my eyes, same as in and - just nice, although technically are very well taken is better, but just because the beautiful light and the sky
I think pictures as or are much better. Special scenes and subjects very well taken again. I also think the second one is not an easy shot at all! And there's also pictures that I completely love:
- simply excellent, maybe the best one in this selection. The compo, subject, light, colors are really superb. - I think could be better with less sky, but anyway is a wonderful picture. - In this one I love the reflection on the glass. - very good composition and reflection, anyway I think you have some better in your portfolio, as , , or - One of my favorites! I ever saw in this picture some kind of sand monster looking up before attack somebody!! (I think I watch too many horror movies ) - a very suggestive sculpture with a very original frame using the another sculpture, I love it!
I also like very much a shot you didn't selected: . Wonderful colors, excellent composition, perfect light… and a wonderful sunset I'd like to shoot someday! Cheers!

Hi, Richt, for me, you're the "queen of the reflections" and as others ( Geert and Zoidberg) , im' really surprised not to see in your selection your for example , more than, as you say ( and as I thought, more or less ), this is "your"lake !!! my favorites in your selection are by preference order your 12,8,9,15,20,15 and at least, your 14 that I missed until today. I really like this 12 because it's a good photo technically talking, the reflection in the glass is unexpected and the scenery is, imo, one of those treasures life can offer us! the other shots you selected are not very attractive to my eyes but maybe that's matter of taste !! To resumate, I believe you have a nice port-folio, with sharp ( and not sharpened ) images, generally good use of light under various weather conditions and.... you'll stay "my queen" for mirroring shots friendly, brigitte
I would like to talk about your ,(not very good technically although you got a good use of space but here you "photoshoped" too much to compensate the lack of sharpness, i suppose) but just because it's for me very interesting to know and exchange, through Woophy, about others countries uses or events ; so, thanks for this
