Hi All,

As you can see, my portfolio is quite small. In a fit of peak, because the system didn't do what I wanted it to do quickly enough while editing my collection, I deleted the lot with the intention of rebuilding it with new material. Unfortunately my leisure time this year has been severely curtailed and that particular amibition has been put on the back-burner. Consequently, I currently only have photographs of only a small number of towns/villages in Wales.

You will not find any art or clever photography in my portfolio. I have no talent in that direction, unfortunately. My photographic ambition is to record and display Welsh towns and villages as they exist today (much in the way that early photographers have done in the past) so that my descendents will have an idea how their fore-fathers lived.

To that extent I ask that you bear these sentiments in mind when you apply your critical facilities to my images.

All my images have been post-shoot processed in Photoshop.

July 25th and August 9th: all your picture were uploaded those two days.
They are only fourty.
If your intention is to show places you visit with good points of view, nice compositions, good colors and sharpness, then I must say: you did it very well. They are all beautiful and well composed.

Hi TGB

Your goal as you mentioned " My photographic ambition is to record and display Welsh towns and villages as they exist today (much in the way that early photographers have done in the past) so that my descendents will have an idea how their fore-fathers lived. "
is very clear and I must say you succeed in this very well as far as I can tell. The pictures give a fine impression of the sites. What I like most is there isn't much obvious post processing, the colors are very natural, I also get a nice impression of the Welsh weather .
The compositions are good, no fancy stuff, you'll get what you see.
I hope to see more of this nice part of your country, your pictures are very inviting.

Hi TGB,

you have pleasant pictures but, I am sorry to say, that's not the kind of pic that attracts my attention: they are probably too postcard-like.

Two 'technical' comments. is rather tilted.
And, on , there is half a person on the extreme left, and a dark spot on the extreme right; you could either erase them, or crop the pic.

Hello TGB,

you write:
'My photographic ambition is to record and display Welsh towns and villages as they exist today (much in the way that early photographers have done in the past) so that my descendents will have an idea how their fore-fathers lived.'
That's a noble ambition I appreciate very much. And meanwhile you show us Woophians the villages, cities, gardens, watermills etc. in your country. You are a real embassador of Wales. And i'd like to see more people showing here interesting spots from the area they live in.

Your collages I like. Old-fashioned postcards indeed. Carew Tidal Mill is good, but Caerphily and Tommy Cooper had made me smile. Your best one!

Above mentioned 'postcards' I would buy, if I were in Wales as a tourist. But it's a pity several of your photo's are less interesting. Some of them have a tilt or aren't cropped in the right way (Ortho has given two examples), others are rather dull. Number 840772 (Sensory Garden) for instance might me usefull as part of a collage, but on it's own it's far from exciting.

Okay, your ambitions are humble. But I think there are photo's in your collection you can improve by some minor corrections. And a small, black frame added will give a better result too.

Meanwhile you have made me curious for Wales. And with these minor corrections and framing suggested you must be able to make mor people curious.

Hello, TGB,

just a few words because I agree with others about all they said;
imo, your collages are the most attractive among your port-folio: the views are interesting and the realisation is clean ; so, for me , part of your goal is reached.
eventhough ( and I already ask for it), i think it would be nice, as well for your descendants than for us, to have some more explanations (just a few words would be enough!) : for example, who could imagine the mill was built around 1540?
and, please, while your next tour, send on Woophy a pic of Hadrien's wall,I like it so much and your descendants will be still more back in time
best regards,
brigitte

Dear TGB,
your pictures are a bit like your Welsh houses: nicely done accordig to the traditional rules, sturdy, lovely to see, absolutely good for the purpose they were made for. With a little effort, IMO, you coud do even better. First, a bit of editing (adjusting histogram and saturation, correcting crop) would help. Second, you could be more attentive to the light conditions - some pics of yours seem to be taken under a very dull, diffused and greysh light, like in a cloudy day. I do not know if that is the typical Welsh light, but I am sure you must have also interesting late afternoons, nice downs, bright mornings - all conditions you could use more often for your pictures. Third, if you are so interested in multiple images enriched with text - as your collages show - you should use the blog section.
Your project is very interesting, and I think that it can be a great challenge for many of us Woophians.

Hi TBG, most of the time I agree with the others but I like you intention very much.
It's so nice to see how other countries are looking with theit landscape people and special buildings,
If I may gove you a tip, look for places and people who are not casual, show us the other side of the famous places, that could be very interesting.
By the way Tommy Cooper steels the show

Hi TGB,

Well, your selection of pictures is not attracting for me… All of them shows nice places, and can be a very beautiful postcards, as this one , or , and also this one that you didn't selected, but there's no other subjects on your portfolio. I think you can try to take different pictures, maybe portraits, or abstract… as you wish, also I think take different subjects it's funniest!

Hello TGB

You reach your goal when you say you want to show Wales as it is today. You have showed a beautiful site of Wales and it was a nice "walk" trough it.
I like you use of colors, a bit cold, but Wales itself makes it warm. Nice contrast.
Maybe you could look for details and make photo's of them. That could also fit in your goal as you descriped it.

Hi TGB,
My visits to Wales are confined to just 1day when staying in Upper Devon 25 years ago.
Having visited Western England I recognize its natural stone buildings in your pics as the base of its architectural wonders. That is what I like very much in your pics and is shown at its best as seen in the collages you selected.
If this is what you prefer doing - as you state in your introduction - then you are successful in your goals.
I cannot believe however that you have no talent to show us more for instance of the life of the ordinary Welshmen an women who live in these beautiful houses and cottages in a predominantly splendid rugged landscape.
Why not start playing around a a little with your motives - like Arwen said - it would bring a nice variation in your portfolio and what is wrong with giving it a try???

Hello TGB

Sorry for the delay, but time is so narrow...

I appreciate your photos, they are simple and you catch what you get.

I will not make technical considerations because I'm no expert to do so. Of course that are some details you must be more attentive to get a better image of what you show.

I saw beautiful landscapes, the architecture of a lovely region taken in a very pleasant way but no big variety in your portfolio, and I think you are able to play with other subjects.

With your photos we are invited to have a closer look and the better is, really, to go there and see with our own eyes

I hope to see more of your work (time for you and time for me...)

Hi TGB!

There is a very big difference beetween the pictures framed three by three compared to the others. The pictures framed are really good. To be honest, it's not the kind of photography which I like, but they could be easily sold as nice postcards showing a place. The edition work is very nice, simple but effective. On the other side, the rest of pictures have a rather messy composition, there are some anoying overburnt skies and the subjects shown are not so interesting (maybe with the exception of the castle...)

I think you are really skilled in photography and post-production, so... why not try to be a little bit more risky and original? I'd like to see other kind of photographies in your portfolio!

Hugs!

Ruden

Hi TGB,

It's a pitty that your portofolio is so small! I'll hope that you can find the time to larging it up, because the area you live in is georgeous! I like the pictures of the castles and like to see more of them. In your story about yourself I can feel that you love Wales. And I think it must be possible that you show it with more passion in your pictures.Hope to see all the beautiful places you see there soon...
Best Regards Dieneke
