I'm not very serious about the picture as a contribution for the contest. But coz most of us celebrated xmas with their families, and because it's about family, I think it's worth to waste a sec; or a minute...
This picture was taken in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. What you have to know is that a taxi is allowed to transport 15 people. Upcountry they don't take the road before 20 people are loaded. However – are 15 people a small family?
Therefore let’s face a few figures. According to the CIA world factbook, the average fertility rate of every women in Uganda is 6.71 born children (2006 est.). In my home country it’s 1.36
The figures become worse, when you’ve a look at the infant mortality rate. There are still 66.15 deaths per 1,000 live births in Uganda.
…hope I did not disturb someone’s happy after-Xmas emotions, but as we are approaching the new year – I wish everyone the best for 2007. And like a german expression says: “schaut’s bitte auch mal ueber den eigenen Tellerrand hinaus”.
